For me, it's a place where my girls can be with other girls in a non competitive setting. Everything is so sports focused and there's not much else to do outside of school that isn't, especially beyond a certain age. It's ok for boys to have this too. Ugh. People just ruin everything!!

Exactly! There’s nothing dictating that Girl Scout troops need to do “girly” or “crafty” activities. You just need to create your own troop if the current ones aren’t suiting your girl’s needs. Or, there are alternative clubs. Explorers, Big City Mountaineers, etc. cater to boys and girls.
