As a legitimate, serious question, could someone explain how the number of wounded is so high? Were all of those the result of bullet spray? Or are they tallying in things like those injured while trying to run away, be it trampling or tripping, or what have you?

I’m gonna wait until they either release the ‘97 Special Edition or the ‘77 original release on Blu Ray before I commit to it. After hearing they slapped on Episode III’s ‘NOOOOOOOO!’ in Episode VI, I was determined to not get this re-re-tweaked version. #hanshotfirstorbust

“Mistakes they make as a young child should not have to follow them for the rest of their life”

“Reasonable”, as defined by the law in most states, is a 24-hour period.

I just have to chalk it up to ignorance on my part. In complete honesty, I have never heard anyone use it in such a way. And this is after growing up in Texas, even! I’ve heard some pretty bad things, but ‘boy’ was not among them. But now I know!

Why yes, yes I did. I already took ‘boy’ to be a condescending phrase, as any man would almost certainly take it. What I didn’t realize were the racial connections to it. I honestly had no clue.

1) I don’t follow the guy, much less boxing, so no idea regarding his past comments.

Fair enough point. But the fact still remains that this was not something I was taught. Not something I was exposed to. Perhaps its an example of white privilege, but I was not immersed in late 1800-early 1900 racist vernacular. But through this article (and some subsequent comments), I’ve managed to learn quite a

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say you didn’t read this reply I made about this very accusation?

How am I sticking up for him? I just said he’s in all likelihood both racist and not-a-nice-person. What he said would be seen as mean in any setting (I’m not really one for trash talking opponents anyway), but I simply didn’t make the connection to anything racist until I actually looked up the phrase. That’s all

All of that is actually extremely informative and helpful. Thank you for sharing it with me!

Oh man. Someone better call an old priest and a young priest then. :P

I was reading that while looking it up earlier, and it’s something I didn’t know. But now I do! Not that I’d ever go around calling anyone ‘boy’, but I’m aware now that it’s something to especially not to do with POC individuals. TIL

Read one of my earlier replies. It’s anime/manga-based shadow faces. In the dark, imposing, glare off glasses, etc. Very different from blackface.

D’oh! You got me. I’ll leave it as is to serve as a proper mark of grammatical shame.

Dude. If anything, I thought it hearkened to some Wild West trope where the bad guy would shoot at the other guy’s feet, saying “Let’s see you dance,” or some nonsense. Sorry that I’m not as immersed in racist culture as you’d like me to be?

Um, yes. Those would be correct assumptions. I don’t typically run around shouting racist epitaphs at people, so apart from the more commonly used phrases (which I won’t mention, obviously), I don’t really immerse myself in racist culture.

On your side-note, it isn’t a mammie, actually. It’s based on anime shadow figures.

I actually had to Google ‘Dance for me, boy’ to know what it meant and its ties to racism. I hadn’t ever heard the phrase until this incident. This guy is still probably a racist and a douche, but is it possible he had just heard it before and, not knowing the context, used it like an idiot?

Right? I was reading the article, and when I hit that line, my immediate thought was “I’m gonna see some snobby comment down below about this, aren’t I?” Glad to see I wasn’t proven wrong.
