I think it's a part of the VW markeeting and/or R&D budget, they are not supposed to make car sales money. So it might not be an expense to the company in that way.

That's true. This isn't news. The company and the product have been available for a couple of years now and as cool as it is, the consumer doesn't seem to appreciate it. Or haven't to this date.
