Well, consider that all the DLC for L4D 1 and 2 is free on PC, they only charge because Microsoft demands that they charge if they use xbox live for distribution. Same reason that UT3 on 360 didn't support maps and mods, while PS3 did.

Try disabling mouse smoothing, and all but your mouse and keyboard under human interface devices.
