The M535 in Europe was nothing more than a bog-standard 535 with the M-teknik suspension and some body panels. The original engine was the M30B34 (not the S38, which only came in the ‘88 US-Spec M5 and later E34 M5s). It’s no more an M than the current X5 with the “M package”.
