The Night's Watch are the Grey Wardens. The game was heavily influenced by A Song of Ice and Fire, and it's very evident. They wanted to do "dark fantasy" and the biggest name in dark fantasy is GRRM.

It was satisfying to me. I wasn't sacrificing myself for Garrus and Joker, I was doing it for all life, organic and synthetic, present and future. The ending made me sad, but also hopeful for the future. A future free of the Reapers and their guidance toward oblivion.
