Uhh, no they aren’t. I had ~5 hours of driver’s ed training and drove occasionally with my parents and got my license at 16. Most of my friends had no driver’s ed and minimal (<10 hours) of riding with their parents.

Try it yourself before you criticize; there’s a lot to learn besides just flying the airplane. For most folks, it takes the better part of a year to get that time in and get their license. It’s not a question of being able to ‘handle’ 60 or 70 hours. 

I think some of what you’re saying here probably has merit, but comparing raw fatality numbers between autos and general aviation is not a meaningful comparison. Fatalities per million miles traveled or something like that would be a more helpful metric.
