If it were me, I would have just nailed a couple of wood strips between the floor joists and be done. Obviously you would need a few different spacings, but it would eliminate loosing short pieces inside the tubing. Just seems cheaper and a better view of your materials in the end.

Always wanted to see this comparison being made, despite knowing from experience that it’s more or less how it goes.

Those guys in there 60’s that work at places like Home Depot/Lowes are the best resource those places have. They have likely DIY’d every project in there house and are always the friendliest people. I have witnessed and received a ton of help from these guys over the years and can’t thank them enough.
