Yes, if your foot never leaves the gas pedal, then it’s no different than decelerating in any other car with your foot still on the gas pedal, and it should be near impossible to “forget” that your foot is on the gas pedal.

Left foot braking is not the answer, but if you’re using one pedal regen to brake you should be covering the brake pedal with your right foot while decelerating, not covering the gas pedal. Same as when I coast in neutral with my stick, I’ll still cover the brake pedal with my right foot in case I need to brake.
