I think people’s “that’s so gross” responses are part of the point.
I think people’s “that’s so gross” responses are part of the point.
Thank you, the missing-the-point-ness here was starting to shock me.
People have ignored the Bill Cosby allegations for years—he’s only getting dropped now because being associated with him has lost whatever acclaim it had before.
I have no problem not saying Jewfro but truly the extent to which all of the precarious whiteness of Jewish people is completely ignored here is often strange to me. I’ve gotten odd and sometimes anti-Semitic comments and treatment from people all my life. It’s odd to be so whitewashed in light of this.
Oh goodness no sorry! I was responding more to this being framed within the article itself even as “a sexist conspiracy” even jokingly. I think you were just following the tone of the article and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. I’m in complete agreement with you, definitely wasn’t trying to...call you out…
I sort of resent turning this into a gender issue for that reason. I run hot. I’m a woman. It’s unfeminine for me to be sticky and sweaty and gross. I pray for a blast of cold rather than delicately shiver in it.
After this whole debacle I think the last thing anyone actually wants is Taylor Swift speaking about racial issues. This apology does its job and is fine.
I loved the first season but there is a pretty good chance this might be why! I think McConnaughey and Harrelson could pull off the sometimes-very-ridiculous dialogue better too, as much as I love McAdams and Farrell (outside of this show).
The real answer, probably.
I don’t get it. The first season of this show was so good. What the fuck happened this time around?!
I’m generally in agreement with you but I wonder what the alternative is? Does getting a title like “the Aurora theater shooter” or something still appeal to those who would be attracted to the infamy that comes with this? You end up with stuff akin to The Yorkshire Ripper which I fear still holds appeal.
If “joyless hag” isn’t in my obit I’ll have failed myself in life.
The idea that someone got something other than pocket change from the tooth fairy is baffling to me.
You really think of 2X as feminist? Maybe before it was a default...
It seems like it would be insane for one of those people to take that job. They’re all very successful doing other things and this seems a very limiting position.
Just quit telling other women how to speak. For fuck’s sake.
No, but during some interview footage they showed asking festival attendees about Kanye performing there there was definitely “it really should be an English musician” type language. Which wouldn’t have been present if the person performing was an American rock act.
“England for the English” type language over here is pretty much always code for “white people only”. I am a big rock and roll fan, the “this should have been a rock act” shit seems really disingenuous and stealth-racist to me.
I’m going to disagree with some people here. I think the tenor of the Kanye opposition has been...well, odd and in the same vein as the criticism that say Jay Z faced when he performed. Lots of people saying “why not have an English musician?” which seems like vaguely coded “we’d prefer white people music, thanks”…
I feel that way about both him and Alison Brie. I wonder if I will inevitably see this, though.
