I don’t for one second believe that he doesn’t think he did anything wrong. I think he doesn’t give a fuck, but I think he knows it was wrong. He just thought he was above getting caught.

The government in Myanmar, which is still mostly leftovers from the military regime with SOME reformers, is using Buddhism as a crutch to subjugate what is an ethnically different people living within their borders, but who are more easily identified by religion.

Dying amid shame and disavowal by everyone is the least he deserves, and I hope he feels every minute of it. Let the ostracism begin.

I thought Buddhism was the least shitty religion, until I started hearing about radical monks. So I just go by my own personal beliefs, which involve thinking nature is pretty great and one simple rule: don’t be an asshole.

Yeah, that seems like a very likely outcome. They can afford private rehab facilities, probably, after all.

Yeah, that’s true. The “white” and “upper class” bit might help. Perhaps because of that we’ll see some real, actually helpful, changes in policy.

Drugs tend to go in big, generational cycles. Cocaine use is on the decline here while it is on the rise in Europe, where opioid use is declining while opioid use climbs here. So none of this really surprises me.

Finally feminism did something right.

I kind of feel like this was about getting white people to talk about race and their racial identity, which is something most of them deny they even have. To that end, I don’t have a problem with it. There was another documentary about white privilege some guy did a couple of years ago to the same effect.

I don’t think I can deal with white people whining about how life is so unfair for them because people call them racist anymore so I’m gonna pass on this.
