Sadly, we cannot get statehood without Congress. And the Republicans like scoring points with their comstiuents by impose bullshit rules and regulations on us. I know I could move to a state in the general area and get representation in Congress, but I love where I live in DC too much to leave.

I still say while legalizing - we need to be letting “criminals” out and setting up a way for them to be re-entered into society.

It’s legal to smoke pot in DC (but not on federal lands), but you can’t buy it unless you have a medical card. For now. Congress won’t let the DC govt use any money to set up a way for it to be sold and get taxed. Bastards in Congress that no one here voted for. grrrr

DC is interested in it, but the assholes in Congress won’t let us. It’s legal to consume pot, but Congress won’t let the city use any money to set up taxes or anything related to legal pot. Bonus Congress BS: We don’t have a voting memeber in Congress. So talk to your senators and reps and get them to get in on the

We really do want to piss off Walker. He's a terrible little man.

You’d think WA’s conservative legislators would be over the moon about finally finding a way to raise huge amounts of revenue without raising taxes. Shockingly, though, I haven’t seen their statement thanking the voters for finding the magic bullet they’ve been looking for all these years. Must’ve missed it. ;)

I’m in Alaska and it became legal in February. We are also still in the weird “gray” area as well. Able to have it and grow a bit, but not sell. Hopefully by this time next year we will have some shops going!

I want CA to jump on this soooo bad. Hell, we'd be so rich we'd be able to buy ALL the water. Win/Win.

We would be the only place in the state where it would be legal. It would bring jobs and money here to the Menominee Reservation. Plus it would piss our governor off. He's Scott Walker.

I have to say, as a Washingtonian and stoner for lyfe, that I am perfectly happy paying the taxes on recreational weed. I can still get it the old-fashioned way (and pay less) if I want to but I like just going to the store, picking something out that sounds good, and going about my day. Totally worth it.

It’s pretty amazing how heavily some local LEAs rely on income from drug seizures, and how fucked up this has made seizure statutes and drug enforcement in those locales.

And that’s just the money. Human rights violations must be lower too.

There is only one possible reason, and it’s a stupid one: the pretense of moral superiority assumed by politicians who want to appear “tough on crime” by continuing to fight the long-lost War On Drugs. Of course, even a glance in the general direction of this stance reveals it to be a fraud on its face but, as I said,

Hear Hear. There is way more money being made/saved that should be counted.

There is still a lot of money working against pot. Drug enforcement money and lobbying from competing interests (alcohol and pharmaceuticals) are two big ones. Also the general political rhetoric that pot is bad and people who smoke pot are bad blah blah blah. It’s more nuanced than this, but not by much.

I want to hear the rest of the story...how much did we save not enforcing pot laws, encarceration, court costs, etc...I’m guessing the 62 million might be on the low side.

And when you factor in all the people who aren’t clogging up the courts & prison system for pot violations, the savings will add to add up to a LOT more.

NY needs to stop playing around and get on the train. Why is NY always behind on national trends these days. Shame.

I think benefitting from white supremacy and not being able to cop to that is a sign that someone is an undercover racist. On some level they believe they deserve all the extras they get. That’s why I don’t like all the digs at the South. It’s easy to point at them and call them “country”, but a lot of the time it’s
