Everyone else on earth is as annoyed with "purity" as I am, right? The idea that there are two kinds of women—"good

Just so I'm clear: Exactly how thin do I need to be to deserve to clothe myself and receive adequate medical care? I just want to make sure I do this right!

Abercrombie's scent and the big pictures they put in the doorway have conditioned me to expect male homoeroticism when I smell linen and musk.

Pre-baby: 32b/c

Knock it off with the Bynes coverage, already. I expect it on Gawker, because that's what they do, it's right there in the name. But you pretend to be better than that, don't you? Shit or get off the pot, Jez. Be the feminist, fair minded site you occasionally act like, or be the rubbernecking, crass shitbag you are

This is rape culture.

I come here to express my feelings, but once again someone has already found a gif for it.

I think the rule of thumb is to keep sentences to fewer than 15 words if you want to be kind to your reader (she says in 24 words).

I think the study shows horses don't put up with nonsense mazes and pointless work, especially with no treat compensation. What was in it for them? A human subject wouldn't do that without compensation.

I work in the social sciences, but the area of research is how young children learn STEM processes (and how teaching can be improved in those areas). What now, Doug? Am I friend or foe?

Right? Maybe Doug should go back to school to learn him some English and develop a better writing style. Let's just examine this sentence:

The problem isn't "He's making fun of us," it's more that he is complete incapable of treating ANY subject with the faintest amount of respect. He always punches out snark and sensationalism when he should be saying "This person is pretty cool" or "This policy is stupid" more or less straight-out.

Once again, a nifty story gets stuffed into Doug's Play-Doh Writing Funnel... and comes out the other end as a ragged mess of misplaced snark, busted metaphors and sentences like crippled snakes.

Once again Doug makes it nearly impossible to understand what the actual article is about. Algae? Teenagers? Pollution? CBS? Pie?

Seriously! There's no reason to put down humanities to prop up a woman studying science. She's doing great things on her own. Her accomplishments should have stood out in this article, but what stood out is that Doug Barry is pretty much an asshole.

My thoughts as well, double ass status for simultaneously implying that the work of social science is useless.

This is a great story about a really cool girl, and you've (once again) obscured that by being an ass. Thanks, Doug Barry.

Back to Catechism with you!

It took me about 20 minutes of thinking about this article to figure out what it was that was bothering me about it. At first I thought it was the occasional self-righteous moralism, but eh, that wasn't nearly as bad as it could've been. The self-aggrandizing was a bit much, but honestly, in a letter of this type
