More than likely because this durability crap is a result of bad planning and implementation. Like Nintendo probably tacked in on because they realized: Um, how are we going to convince players to use other weapons...ah ha! We break them!

@xone9: From everything I've read, it seems he uses electronic drum machines but analogue synths (when he's not using a band... The Slip has, erm, quite a lot of guitar).
