The Hummer(H1) was built on an Hummer frame, and had portal axles and inboard brakes. When they tried to introduce the Hummer 2, which shares not a single component with the H1 and is built on a modified pick up frame, GM tried to license the Hummer name, but AMG refused, so they needed to buy the company.
