True.

I really don’t read the general sentiment being “Good on you, Jay-Z for seeing the error of your ways and turning it around!” so much as “Glad he admitted what he did and spurred this type of convo/self-reflection for men.”

Even though Beyonce was young when she met Jay Z, nearly every woman has a story about a guy who treated her like shit and then he magically had this calling to be a better person when she walked out the door. It ain’t new. It ain’t innovative. It ain’t unique.

This is just so sad and unfathomable.

None of what I said had anything to do with them being black. It had everything to do with the depictions you find “wrong” to be totally accurate representations of how people behave and are received in real life.

I think fundamentally you just don’t “get it.” So maybe the movie fails in a sense b/c it is not clear enough in its execution for some folks to understand, but none of the things you complain about are actually flaws.

Not trying to be argumentative, but while dumb on United’s part, it is also a relatively small incident, and could have been escalated without getting “Dr Dao’d”

You still have never identified anything that was “bad” about them!! I listed out a bunch of things that were affirmatively good (in my—and many others’—opinions, and had nothing to do with the fact that it was the only movie of its type). What else is there???? What are all these horrible elements of

It’s a bad, bad movie that is sadly loved by black people because it’s one of the few we have on this type. Similarly, the much superior yet still very flawed love jones which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. We revere it, but it’s also not that good.

Let’s assume for a moment that the mother is correct and her daughter had the higher GPA b/c of honors/AP, etc....

I know someone who recently argued an immigration case before the Court and they said it was actually scary the extent to which the SCT was not acquainted with the (fully briefed) immigration law at issue in his case—and that they were the least knowledgeable court on this issue that he had to argue his case before.

it reads as though she’s realizing how much you can be blind to the widespread deferential treatment by being too close. I don’t think she’s actually saying one is as bad as the other. I took it to mean: you can try to use anecdotes to dismiss (or reinforce) a reality and live blind to the facts, but once you wake

First off, you’re not the sort of person I’m referring to in the “fuck off forever” bit.

1. Just a few days ago some white woman slid in my DM’s to chastise me for using misogynistic language

Same.

I mean little baby hats. Skull caps, beanies, those things that every baby has pictures in. No religious significance. They give them to babies at the hospital when they are born (along with baby clothes) but you can also use your own if you brought them. She saw that those that were in their own—i.e. not the generic

That is a real quote?!? So sad, yet so true.

I couldn’t even watch any of it. But I am sure there are many that will glibly watch and re-watch...like picnickers at a lynching....
