In the notifications when I skimmed it I totally read something different and I thought oh cmon! Don’t be gross on such a sad article. Then I read it in full. I’m sorry for thinking you were a perv. I guess when someone is a run of the mill rapist and people killer you think ugh that person is scum but it isn’t

That made me make my “did you poop in the house, dog? It smells like poop” face. But for totally different reasons.

I live near where this all happened but was too young when he originally was convicted of rape. I want to watch it but am afraid it will hit (literally) too close to home. Like, 15 minutes from home. *shudders*

Yeah, I remember wondering if it was the false conviction and prison that turned him into a horrible person. Then reading about it in the MKE news it turned out he was already pretty disturbing prior to prison.

If my memory serves me correctly, his nephew was involved...I think he was the one that raped and set her body on fire.

Native Wisconsinite, and I remember following this story in 2003 and feeling ill.

I'm from Wisconsin (Appleton) and remember this case very clearly. I was in high school at the time and I remember everyone talking about it. I don't think I could watch this.

Yes. The DNA was matched to another guy who looks a lot like him. That guy was already in prison for a rape he perpetrated after the one Avery was convicted of.

Thing is, the police who arrested him thought he was capable of doing the rape. He had other convictions of assault and animal cruelty. He was not a good guy.

ooh wait - wasn’t there a recent article about this? written by the woman who pointed the finger at him 18 for the rape?

We’re sure he didn't really commit the crime he was exonerated for?

YES. When I teach about the Civil War my students often ask me about why the KKK has the institutional hierarchy and naming that it does, like why it chose “Grand Wizard,” “dragons,” “klavern,” etc. for their titles. In my mind they’re just bunch of white terrorists who created that mythology to justify their racism

Oh, that guy! This story was on an episode of Radiolab.

I believe you’re right, but I don’t trust my memory enough to post as much. And I’m not exactly in the mood to dredge up the facts of the case right now. This Netlix feature is sure to do so, however.

Madison resident here....I totally got chills reading this. I recall the story oh so well. That poor photographer.

Right. It’s one of the reasons I’m now working a boring desk job instead of gathering news. As a society, we should have a deeper understanding of what’s not working...as an individual, I don’t need to wade around ghoulish peoples’ minds. It’s a tension.

What do you mean? Fill us in. What creeps you out? Is it that he is guilty or not guilty. A little more please.

A large portion think that man made climate change isn’t a thing either though. Still not really a secret. :P But I was joking.

I heard from a reputable source that their periods attract bears.

Yes, but if the women have passed all the same physical requirement and other tests, there’s no reason having them there should in any way hinder the men. If people are focused on doing their job I don’t see why them having an innie or an outie should matter one way or the other. I mean, women aren’t bitching that the

I mean given timelines in other professions, they will maybe come around in like 45 years? Haha. BTW men whose careers I ruined simply by being there and being much, much better: sorry, women have families too :/
