With the need for airflow to cool the powertrain it could add a lot of front lift. The hood vent helps with both, it gets more front end airflow and less front lift.

Where I live police fleet are mostly crown vics. Now they are replacing them with the 4 banger taurus... Gas is a killer for cities trying to make a profit out of ticket fines.

Considering that this has electronic throttle, I don't think that the feature costs anything to install since it's just part of the software. Since the only costs then are on development, they might as well include it and just let people turn it on or off.
