It is true that I am only commenting on my experience, and my experience has been limited to the Northern Caribbean, Bahamas, Turks, Virgin Islands etc. But I can guarantee you up here most of the black locals don't swim, and the ones that do are mostly male.

Give it a try, I spent roughly half my life living in the Caribbean and have never been stung by any thing or had my bones shattered. Of course I don't know where you are, so maybe that is not the case. In the areas I have lived it is mostly because culturally the girls are suppose to stay home.
