I thought some did get some payment? I think John Byrne said he got paid something by Disney for his work on She-Hulk. No idea how much and probably not at all enough compared to what they could give them pretty easily.
Kevin Fiege, Joss Whedon, and Sam Jackson have all talked about how much The Ultimates inspired the movies. But hey, TheCorrector knows more!
The characterization of Tony Stark and Nick Fury in the MCU is largely from the Ultimates version, as are many plots points of The Avengers movie (plus how Hawkeye and Black Widow are initially portrayed.) Feige has said he was a big fan of the Ultimates series and it made him realize an Avengers movie could be done…
Nice to see so many bronze age writers and artists getting to work on the 80-page giant issue (a format that is itself nostalgic, if more silver age). A really cool item indeed!
I hope the official title isn’t Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio as that leaves out hundreds (thousands?) who also worked on it. Not to mention Carlo Collodi.
New trivia for me (and maybe just me!) Thanks.
Lupita Nyong’o is a movie star with off the charts charisma. Beyond incredible physical beautiy and strong acting chops she’s got that “it” factor. Be shocked if they didn’t pick her.
This looks like a really fun kid movie! Hoping we get Tawky Tawny!
I didn’t know the upcoming Black Panther movie was going to have Namor. Probably would’ve heard before it came out, but still kind of a bummer to have it spoiled here. Ah well.
I do wonder if releasing it so soon after Stranger Things has just ended a season was a good idea, though? The comparison was always going to be made but maybe better to wait until Halloween? (plus, the holiday plays a part in the original comic’s story.)
Does anyone else feel there’s colorism with the casting? It’s disappointing.
The 1999 movie “Earth” is set in that period and is really good. Not sure where to find it!
This deserves a No-Prize!
Or... he could maybe stay in the USA and use his fame to help get out the vote for Democrats so American women can one day get their rights back? Just a thought.
Kinja is terrible with Firefox and that was not at all meant for you but the author of the piece. Apologies!
“while also fueling concerns as to why Marvel would, at this point, hire a non-Black writer for the comic in the first place.”
I think back when it debuted many of us (like me!) saw Family Guy initially as a Simpson rip-off and thought the joke telling was lazy (as the South Park guys gently teased in that Cartoon Wars episode.) So Seth getting incredibly rich off that made people mad. I didn’t get mad, as even if it wasn’t totally original,…
Hope we get cool sax playing Indy!
You might hear someone attacking a persecuted minority. What a great night out!
