There’s a big Ferrari contingent that shows up at the C&C in nearby New Canaan CT. I’d wear it to the next meetup and play the doofus ogling a 308 telling everyone it’s the fastest Ferrari ever made because it was on Magnum P.I.

It’s like they didn’t even try to line up the back door with the body.

Its a shame that finding a 240 in factory condition is so hard anymore. Good looking cars I think.

Have a star. I’ve owned a Z4 since 2009 and I still can’t help but to stare at mine for long periods of time. The lines are so delicate and purposeful and they way they bring the car together really is an amazing feat of design. And who said it is half the fun? I’ve driven a Miata and the 5 speed in my Z4 is smoother

Funny enough, Bangle was the head of design for BMW then.

Derivative? Yeah.

Really? I love it! Especially how that line runs up at the same angle towards the A-pillar. And how the lower horizontal line is a continuation from the front bumper down .

I’ve always loved that feature, actually. It cut down the visual mass of the long nose, but also made the emblem a sculptural element rather than the typical stick-on affair.

Yes, you are irrational. The E60 was and is still a fantastic design.

Bangle is a design genius. His concept of bookending the product line with extremes of form is brilliant and led to some very exciting and polarizing vehicles. I’m not a fan of all of it, but it’s revolutionary and original work, very rare in car design. I’m a biggest fan of the E90 series penned under him by Joji

I love the e63. The infamous “Bangle Butt” actually works well here, it is a perfectly proportioned and cohesive design. It reminds me of the 90's 8 series which I also love.

Thank you! His 7 Series has an especially fond place in my heart. Bless my heart, apparently.

Bangle’s vision was way ahead of his time. The value he brought to BMW—and by extension, automotive design—was never really about selling X units (though, of course, that’s a performance metric) but finally breaking the mold of iterative design. Sure, you can always say don’t fix what’s not broken, but then Bangle

Call me crazy but I’m a fan of his work. The e60 5 series still looks fresh and current 10 years later, particularly when compared to the already dated looking F10. The e60 M5 in particular is a masterpiece, just the right combination of restraint and menace in its design.

The head of design is a creative director. The Bangle era designs are designs created under his leadership.

And yet, look at how many manufacturers emulated the butt

I know right?

Yawn

Structural engineer here. The fact that this is the largest of the 3 (apparent) braces running across the short axis of the car to stiffen the frame rails tells me it has the most load on it (yes real engineering-ish). I’m having a hard time orienting the pictures with each other but regardless: corners are always the
