This line of thinking doesn’t track - no one watches NASCAR to see if Ford beats Chevy. I personally don’t really care which Big Brand finishes first. It’s about the drivers and the teams more than the make of the car. Which is why it’s more interesting to me than F1 - in F1, you’re rooting for a brand. That’s dumb.

Counterpoint: Do whatever it takes to get the damn call right. It’s worth the extra 2 minutes of my life.

This. But that doesn’t fit in with Deadspin’s editorial viewpoint, which is “You should be able to make as much money as soon as possible with no restrictions until you hit a certain point, at which all of your money must be taken from you because you’re a bad person.”

You’re right, the point I’m trying to make probably lends itself to some pretty dramatic underselling. I’m just trying to say that generating wealth can be done slowly and methodically with smart decision making over the long term and how that can snowball into what’s resented as “trust fund” money.

I really don’t think I am - I only had 1 parent who went to college, and the one that did didn’t get some trust fund job. Neither came from money at all. I didn’t have any magical “connections” either - I just went to an in-state public school known for their corporate job placement.

The incredulity with which people are reacting to this is unbelievable. Now yes, $100k is a lot for a 25 year old. I’m 25 and I’m making $80k-$85k per year, but that’s after a promotion to a position I’ll probably be in until my 30s.

I can’t wait until everyone is tired of paying separately for a million different streaming services and someone gets rich by selling them a package of all channels and services at a single price. We could call it... cable.

That’s funny considering soccer is The Big Bang Theory of sports.

Awesome for the kids. I will continue to not watch the G-League and watch college basketball instead.

We get it - you hate the brands. You don’t need to spend hours and hours writing these pieces to remind us of that.

Gonna do some presuming about this situation and say that both of these murders were committed by shitty men who felt entitled to women and turned violent when they didn’t get their way.

Serena said the perfect 2 words that could’ve gotten people on her side: “But men.” Now instead of the focus being on her behavior, which was terrible, it’s on whether or not there’s discrimination.

The answer, as with SBNation, is don’t write for this website if you don’t like your compensation

American soccer culture is the worst kind of poser nonsense. It baffles me how this sport seems to be growing in the states.

Because if the population of American citizens murders x people, and illegal immigrants murder y people, the total number of murders is x+y. If those illegal immigrants weren’t here, it would only be x.

Yes, they may actually be lowering the crime rate. But they are not lowering the number of crimes committed. Even if they commit murder at a lower rate than American citizens, those are still additional murders that wouldn’t happen if they weren’t there.

You’re right that crime happens and we all expect that. But this is entirely preventable crime - people that shouldn’t be here adding to the total robberies/murders/other above and beyond what would be expected from our population. It’s extra crime that is preventable by securing the border.

Paying football players is not worse than covering up child rape, no one is debating that. But at least in that scenario, it was a top-down rulebreaking effort that included EVERYONE - administrators, boosters, players, parents, staff, everyone. Regardless of what you think of the rule, it was openly being cheated.

Because when people do something wrong, you fire and prosecute them. The “program” doesn’t do anything, the people in it do. And all those people are fired/on trial if they didn’t meet their legal obligations. The kids did nothing wrong, why punish them?

It’s amazing to me how people seem to be turning away from the NFL because a significant portion of the fanbase is now revealing themselves to be terrible, and turning to soccer, where a significant portion of the fanbase has always been publicly terrible.
