Yep. Quite a treat when a game times its audio logs so perfectly that you can keep a jog up and get there right as it ends. All the same though, enough games do it poorly (i.e. the log gets interrupted by the next portion of gameplay) that I’m usually hesitant to go anywhere while the log is still playing.

Seriously? They’ve been serious backers of the Witcher series, they’ve fixed and resold old games and even uncovered lost artifacts of gaming and put them for sale and been giant propagandists for DRM-free gaming.

Also if they really want that Bethesda and Valve could PAY modders because they generate sales and traffic.

6) Steam Greenlight & Early Access situations will occur in the Workshop.
7) The modders only get paid after making $400 gross. (?)
8) Skyrim and like games have a large number of people creating assets for others to use in their mods, muddying the waters of who-is-due-what.
9) The system avoided Valve taking any legal

Well, one positive thing that may have come from all of this is that it brought the donation feature of Nexus further into the light. People clamored so much for a donation feature, hopefully they’ll actually go use the one that’s available to them.

ARE YOU ALL HAPPY NOW? F’real though...now that it’s gone, queue logical discussions on the positives of paying content developers.

1) They only profit 25%
2) Because of 1 mod prices will probably be very high to make any actual profit
3) If they come up with a good idea someone can steal it, republish it and benefit from it
4) For every 1 good mod you’ll find dozens of crappy horse armor mods just looking to make a quick buck.
5) Company with a giant

“our main goals were to allow mod makers the opportunity to work on their mods full time if they wanted to”

they are.

Seriously... wtf?

No one said they should never be compensated, just not the way Valve wanted to implement it. Knowing that the lion’s share was going to Valve for literally doing nothing left a sour taste in my mouth. Put a donate button and ensure that a lot more goes to the mod creator will make me feel better for starters.

No actually if you took a gander over at the Nexus, a lot of modders were indeed NOT in support of this. Considering that the number of mods on Nexus only dropped by about 70, still sitting fat and happy around 40,000 plus mods. Most of the mods that dropped off of Nexus were just hidden til this whole incident sorted

oh totally. I’m very glad they admitted that they fucked up. I just wish they would have sat back and thought about what would actually happen and how people would react instead of assuming everybody would be cool with it.

As someone who knows several people who work in the Games Industry, and seen how many people have to pour their time and money into mods or indie games to just break into the Industry, not going to lie I have got mixed feelings about this.

I don’t know if celebrating is the right response. Especially given how vulgar some of the attitudes and tactics were for those that opposed the paid mod scheme.

If only gamers were this active and stubborn about things like preorders and DLC, maybe companies would stop trying to walk over us like we’re nothing.

Between now and then we decided to start allowing curses in headlines.
