True, the game is free to download, but the ASA has effectively ruled out using the term "FREE" to define games that strangle the money out of people if against their rules. They're basicly saying that whilst the app is free, the game is not.

The problem with that argument is that I'm not watching the light novel, I'm watching the anime. And frankley if they have actually cut things from the first arc I dread to think how long the books were.

Mahouka is a poorly written author-wankfest spending more time explaining the mechanics of magic then actually using it, and has paper thin characters and predictable "plots". Not that there are any plots yet, as we've yet to even conclude the opening episode.

You say that, but like with a lot of Log Horizon, they took that seemingly mundane (Though I enjoyed it) plot and equated it to solving the puzzle, and then linked it to a greater plot. It wasn't fully explained, and it focussed more on Minori and Akatsuki than the plot, but that was hiding the truth.

The lack of "Death = Death" isn't a major issue unless you aren't paying attention. There are penalties to dieing, it's just they need to be discovered. They don't have an evil overlord explaining to everyone exactly what is happening and why they are trapped in episode one.
