We recognize the valid concern around diversity in video game narrative. Assassin's Creed is developed by a multicultural team of various faiths and beliefs and we hope this attention to diversity is reflected in the settings of our games and our characters.
There are no small injustices.
Name all those other issues. Because, you know... Not representing half of its audience seems like a big issue to me.
AAAAAAaaand, they've missed the point.
Again, I'm an animator calling out another animator. SEVERAL animations can be transplanted between rigs and genders (again, I've done so). If something looks off, it takes but a few minutes to tweak it into place. It's NOT as hard as they claim it is. Even their number (8,000 animations) is hilariously small compared…
As I'm a developer, I understand development. I can tell you, it's not doubling the work, it's adding in some character work, but in no way doubling. Additionally, that data is easy to manipulate from capture, and a male model can easily be changed to a female movement pattern.
Mass Effect used the same animations from maleShep for FemShep and it worked. Also, Ubisoft already made an AC with a female assassin. Couldn't they just use those assets?
Then don't do double the work and simply tweak the animations you already have. I'm an animator too. It's beyond stupid to start all over from scratch when you have pre-existing work you can spend a little extra effort customizing and tweaking. And they have Aveline's resources, don't they? Why not use those?
Uh, yeah... They used the same animations with AC Liberation and NO ONE CARED. They've used the same animation with females in their MP mode for years and... NO ONE CARED.
I didn't even think she looked bad or anything. That just gave FemShep an air of utter badass who takes no bullshit from anyone. I think it worked.
Look, if you don't want to have female assassin because of creative reasons that's perfectly ok. Just don't come out and tell me you have a multi-million dollar videogame that's being made collectively by 8 Ubisoft Studios from around the world who have the time to painstakingly create a huge and detailed Paris filled…
Because it's not like they could even consider having a female main character, amirite? HAHA WHO WANTS GIRLS IN VIDEO GAMES? THEY HAVE COOTIES.
This has been a mantra in Logo design for a very long time. If your artwork doesn't stand out in black and white silhouettes than it won't work in color. Look at EVERY major company logo, they ALL work in just plain black and white. Because what you remember aren't the colors (take Google for example) not everyone…
It was incredibly obvious from the start that image had incredibly muted colours, and the actual game won't look like that.
Christ E3 so far has just been Bullshots. Please for the love of god show us some proper gameplay.
Oh boy, I can't wait for absolutely nothing of value to be announced!
Is this sustainable?
