The sad part is he probably thought he would get away with it because wealthy people do this all the time. They make headlines when the “pledge” to donate money and everyone slobbers over what great philanthropists they are. Then they spread the amount over several years, are frequently late giving the money they

I know people like your mother. I cry for them whenever people talk about raising Social Security eligibility ages. It’s basically a regressive tax on people like them. Their bodies just won’t last long enough to retire. It’ll work for all us desk bound, white collar types, but few people who work hard with their

I also work in museums. I have for almost 30 years. It is a poster child for this type of exploitation. And it’s been like this as long as I can remember and it has gotten worse. You used to be able to get a good entry level job with a content area BA and it was industry practice to train new employees in the skills

You know. This post is so old I don’t even remember what the point was. But sure. Why not? Shoot away.

Sure they do, but only when it’s on the way back up after drinking the 13th beer.

It’s hard to hear the screams of pain from a few rape victims over the cheers of a stadium full of football fans.

Except he isn’t fired is he? He is “suspended” with contemplation of firing later. Which means he might not be fired merely given a different sinecure and/or he won’t be fired but he will have his contract bought out for so much fucking money he never has to work again if he doesn’t want to.

And the mandatory support from the student body through athletic fees. If I go to a football game at my school, I pay thrice. Once through my taxes, once through athletic fees, and again when I buy a ticket.

No, it’s because the people in charge of football players are at fault here. You keep your daughters away from football players because if, GSD forbid, she does get raped, the school and football industrial complex won’t spend millions of dollars covering it up and “retaliating” against her. And avert your eyeballs

This is the part where I trot out the fact that Dave Bliss is coaching college basketball again (at a Christian school no less) and the whistleblower, Abar Rouse was, at least the last we heard of him, working on a factory floor mired in debt.

Serious question. I didn’t see in the article above or in the linked press release. Anyone know whether he is being fired for cause or if they are buying out his contract. Will he be making millions even if he doesn’t work this season?

Actually, what I was trying to say is that I could understand the impulse to shield these students from the worst consequences of their actions. To try to help them in this situation. It’s something I can sympathize with. I am not totally convinced that’s what he is trying to do here. Given the lightness of his

I agree on the half a story. Absolutely. And I for one am only commenting on what is in this admittedly shallow piece. I reserve the right to change my mind in either direction if and when we learn more. We could learn more that paints him in a more positive light. Or we could learn more that makes him look less like

Yeah, that’s so much worse than “Hey coach, we just heard you looked the other way when you learned half your team was selling drugs.”

Hey! He assigned a full page essay! ONE. WHOLE.PAGE! That man loves him some words!

I agree his heart is in the right place and not ruining those young adult’s lives is a worthy goal. If he truly believes what he did was right, I look forward to his words on how his methods should be replicated for non-athletic students or even young adults who don’t go to college.

Ah, the rare, but impressive, Mobius Fist.

Wouldn’t that be the fistees? Or the fisted?

I agree. And also bear in mind a museum like this is only tangentially built for the first generation to see it open. A large part of their job is to collect and preserve so a 100 years from now there will be someplace that saved the artifacts and the stories and will make them available to people who have no memory

Before the Holocaust Memorial Museum opened I interviewed for an Oral History Archivist position. I am soooooo glad I didn’t get it. I don’t think I could have handled it.
