I think that being positive is great. However, being overly positive to the point where we're living in our own hype and hope, and thus ignoring reality, can be less than optimal.

I understand been there myself. Hard to deal with both anxiety and depression. At one stage in my career, I did operating system testing - I was paid to find problems and break stuff. I had to do something else after a while because it aggravated my depression.

Popular Mechanics has long history of publishing plans - many of which can be downloaded and/or purchased. There are free plans available on the web, but from what I've seen, the free ones are not as good as the ones you can buy. Your local library may be a good source.

In my state, school districts offer adult enrichment education - some schools have shop courses. For example, the Rochester MN School District has a Woodworking-Beginning/Advanced class. 10 - 3 hour sessions for $105. Your state may have something similar.
