I think less than .001 percent of the outcry is about that and most of it is people that learned history from watching movies and think that women’s representation in media from the past few decades is historically accurate.

They were bad ass people. Flew outdated biplanes against the luftwaffe and came out on top. Flew night missions before radar was invented and shut off their engines during bombing dives so that the Germans wouldn’t hear them coming. Really awesome, terrifying stuff.
