Having just come from a telepresence meeting with New York, I have to say that the technology is breathtaking. Look at the picture you chose for the article. Notice how the scene on the other side of the screen is virtually seamless? That's how it actually feels.
@bboothy: Quality for one. Legality for another. Also, most people wouldn't have to "make friends" to split the charges, merely invite one or two of their friends or roommates they already have to have a movie night.
