@HoyaCarLover: Heard any eight cylindered BMWs? They put their own sixes to shame in power and sound.

@danio3834: The Vulcan V6 was the largest engine put into production, granted. But all it did was make the vehicle slightly quicker while dropping fuel efficiency figures by up to 33%. Big sacrifice for little gains. It was just a space filler to give the Tempo a few more years (it was supposed to be discontinued in

@Brian DuBois: I think we need more Mustang SVO anyway.

I agree with Hyundai's fourth commandment (or whatever). The V6 has been and always will be, pointless. Unless your a 2010 Camaro or 2011 Mustang.

@BaconSandwich and the generic grey civic of doom: Its sort of ironic really. How all these fuel saving technologies don't really help. Considering some of the simplest engines to come out of the 1980s and 90s can put to shame the best of today's high tech machines.

@RegalRegalia: True that. Maybe its just wishful thinking, but I think there is a slight chance (if ever so slight) he could do well.

In appearance, it looks years ahead of the decades behind Cobalt. Not just in visual appeal, but it just looks like something higher quality then the cheap ass Cobalt and the Cavalier it replaced.

@pauljones: 1984 Ford Tempo GL Coupe, equipped with Ford's in-house designed FuelSaver 4spd. with O/D (based loosely on Mazda's MTX-III 5spd) and Mazda RF 2.0L Diesel I4.

@pauljones: You were my second choice.

@RegalRegalia: In either way though, you've gotta figure the car enthusiast would benefit if Lutz ran GM. He's the fun car guy. Amirite?

Realistically, Bob Lutz. Now it can either go one of two ways with Lutz at the helm. He could sink it, by spending a shit load of cash on bringing cars like the Pontiac G8 to life and then shoving Viper-sized engines in Aveos. Or, he could make good, quality cars. Which is really what the auto industry is all about.

@pauljones: Ford Tempo Fan supports your decision. You are welcomed with open arms, brother.

Man, why is it so hard for Chrysler and GM to get good leaders? You'd think there would be plenty of eager candidates.

@Grive: Solution to both of our different yet similar situations is to buy a big, black 1990 Ford F-150 with quad shocks up front, 4WD with Detroit lockers, Dana 40 diff, in RGSB form, with the 351M/4spd. combo.

I've been pushing it with my new truck. Bought used, I've since put 2,xxx miles on it. Just haven't gotten around to changing it.

@pauljones: Also, chicks dig 'em. Its the one feature of my car that really is memorable to the common female.

@pauljones: Hey now, over two decades down the road and my '89 still has the original motors in both belts. They are both smooth and silent, and move at the same constant speed. The problem is, Mr. Pauljones hasn't driven enough Tempo. Fix that!
