@Mad_Science: She only tolerates it because it is pretty comfortable compared to her late 80s Subaru wagon.

@AlienProbe: Man. I can't even get her to pose in front of my own Tempo, let alone a rotting GL...

Something tells me, that if I asked my girlfriend to pose in front of the old junk yard Tempos and Broncos, she would say no.

We have a similar scene up here. Spring breakup is nearing full swing, and there is large amounts of flooding and overflow on roads, driveways, parking lots, and junk yards.

No AWD is a turn off for me. I'm a Legacy/Fusion kinda guy.

@Duke engineerd von Prandtl: I love your crack addict metaphor. I've done 0-60MPH in nine seconds. Down a very steep hill. I am willing to admit Tempo's flaws; speed being one of them. It has none. It is sufficient to where I don't fear the highway and I can pass with ease. Any time you want a little oomph, you get

@Froggmann: Well, a friend with a 1989 GLS said he had a friend follow him and get his speed. 122MPH. Similarly, Car & Driver claimed a 1989 GLS could top at 101MPH.

@Duke engineerd von Prandtl: True enough. A faster, but less durable car might give out soon. I guess a police chase in a Ford Tempo would just be more funny then exciting.

Like most answers to questions in life, this one is: Ford Tempo. The speedometer tops out at 83MPH. It would hardly be a police chase.

@sub-$3K luxury rides are expendable: You are too negative. Set the bar low. Unless the whole damn car explodes in a massive mushroom cloud of smoke, look at any mechanical failures as an insignificant, petty side effect.

@CptSevere: I've heard one in person and I swear it was the strangest, most unexpected sound you will ever hear coming out of an otherwise "boring" economy car.

@ptmeyer84 - Prancing Moose Edition: Haha, I appreciate you guys. Literally every other blog and forum I've been a member of has booed off my Tempo enthusiasm as just being that of a troll.

Okay. I have arrived. Late, apparently, and I resent that. I would like to start by saying Jalopnik should wait for me to start posting interesting (Tempo-related) posts. The world should start revolving around me now.

@FromaBuick6: 1992. A sad year. That was the year Ford went for a monochromatic refresh of the Tempo. By monochromatic, I mean no more AWD, no more wood trim, no more brushed metal, and worst of all; no more chrome.

@Jo Schmo: More ground clearance then most modern sport utilities, a simple lightweight body, and of course the all wheel drive.

We are not amused with the sub-300HP figures. Something about this sexy-ish wagon just seems, wrong. I can't see the locals trading in their '89 DL wagons for one of these fancy new examples of modern technology.

@LucidRalphWiley: Oh don't get me started.. The Tale of Tempo is a long one, full of twists and turns, and straight-eight test mules. Surely, Ford Tempo is a marvel in a sea of bland and boring economy cars. Tempo is the very definition of innovation, being Ford's first entry in the front wheel drive world.
