That was part of it. That a built s54b32 in an e46 so its lighter then the e9xM cars out there and has more power then the e36's out there. The E30's are all mostly Spec E30 and not in the same class as this fully prepped car.

That is one very long and steep grade, one of the worst in the US. The big rigs drive it right, way to many guys in 3/4 ton pickups towing that do have no clue and ride the brakes...

Pretty simple.. the new engine has more room in it for more power and better MPG, they are sandbagging the performance so that they can make it better in a few years, and use the increased room in MPG as a buffer for CAFE standards as they have to come down x a year.
