I think Discovery’s biggest problem is its setting - a ton of Star Trek fans, the ones most excited for Discovery, have been clamoring for something post-Nemesis since, well, Nemesis. We’ve already gone the “prequel but also the technology looks too new” route. We’ve already gone the “alternate timeline” route.
