I will not abide by this Airheads erasure.

There are two best-case scenarios:

1) Judges are nominated by people who can evaluate sound judicial reasoning
2) Judges are elected by people who can do the same

2's pretty hard to pull off if the vote is open to the general electorate.

Yeah, he was always an arrogant prick, going all the way back to Growing Pains. He spent the post-wrap press conference bitching about how little time he’d been given to have an impact on the show, and how ratings would have improved down the line, had he been given the chance.

The problem would solve itself pretty quickly if you took away the profit motive — I think? Wwwway fewer people would chase fame?but that would just be another one of those unworkable top-down fixes we’ve already discussed.

I don’t know, man. The basic phenomenon dates back to ancient times. We just have more access to famous people now.

It’s a big deal. He had broken the showbusiness rules. You know, the rules of perception. If they’re Black, then it’s a gang. If they’re Italian, it’s a mob, but if they’re Jewish, it’s a coincidence and you should never speak about it.

TL;DR: There’s no way to prevent this that wouldn’t require draconian laws, which would only somewhat mitigate nepotism at the entry level, but not after. That’s why I wish nepo babies would just own up to their advantages, while also maybe going out of their way to boost talented people who are starting from the

I don’t think the nepo baby to regular baby actor ratio is a good metric. Nepo babies are a tiny fraction of the total acting pool. The question is whether or not nepo babies outperform their peers who have no industry connections, and I’d bet the farm on ‘yes they do.’

Sure; but the whole reason this entire conversation is even happening is the assumption that this nepotism is causing a problem.

Yeah, that’s especially true for celebrities, but even regular folks — particularly those not tweeting anonymously — should realize that Twitter musings are the equivalent of a public diary with a powerful search feature.

Wooooooooo! Fuck you, post-truth party!

Yeah. Celeb tweets are basically press releases, or at least should be curated as such. Once a tweet starts trending for the wrong reasons, it can get amplified to the point where it becomes its own news story. Twitter’s just not the right place for any sort of musing that could be the least bit controversial.

Also Boehner

Convincing regular people that they can aspire to the same level of health as a pro athlete or a model is a huge hustle, yeah. Us normies would be better served by buying into the concept of radical self-acceptance, while striving for (gradual, reasonable) self-improvement (relative to ourselves).

You know what? I’ve been thinking about this, and though I never saw the original Avatar (or Titanic, or The Abyss, or... Dark Angel, seriously? He directed that?), if people are going to keep throwing money at James Cameron to direct genre fiction, then I think he should keep doing it. He fully commits to solving

I once worked with a scripter who would copy-paste script blocks and make minor alterations to each pasted part to achieve something resembling iteration. Like, dude didn’t really understand looping.

Ahhhh, that makes sense, thanks.

I’ve only seen clips of the show, but do they ever address the fact that all that’s supposed to remain of Vecna in AD&D lore is a hand and an eye? Like does Vecna get put back together in the show somehow, or is he just a regular lich whose body parts haven’t become artifacts yet?

Lines of code written is a terrible metric to use in rating progs. This has been known for decades. Here’s my favourite example of it:
