I had a 2009 Ford Flex, and the most fun way to reach the rear seats was through the hatch. Pull lever 2, and the whole seat would pivot back, so the seat is on its back facing up, I would load the kids in like astronauts, and tilt the seat forward until it clicked into place. I think the original poster was concerned that the cops had their guns drawn, that was completely unnecessary in this situation, especially with a child present. Cops are professional, but a drawn gun always has a higher probability of discharge than one in a holster.
