Lasorda was paraphrasing himself. I think the original quote was that he (Garvey) would need an oar to hit the ball, and that Bevacqua was the one that couldn't hit water if he fell out of the boat.

Ooh... Murphy brings up another Brave who is going to be an interesting case - Andruw Jones. I mention him and people laugh... but if he had retired at the age of 30, you'd have a guy with 370 HR's and 10 Gold Gloves.
I think you're selling Smoltz short. He was a strong candidate pre-injury, then came back and reinvented himself and was an elite closer - before coming back and becoming an all-star caliber starter again.
Grich doesn't get the respect he deserves because he was a Sabermetrician's wet dream about a quarter-century too early. For him to only hit 2.6% of ballots on his only year is a shame.
Schilling's case most mirrors Don Drysdale. That's the name that seems to come up a lot when talking about Curt.
Raines. It's just his luck that he happened to be 3rd best among leadoff hitters in an era with Molitor and Henderson. That, and playing his best years in Montreal didn't help with his Q rating either.
He's been in for 2 years now.
This. +1.
Arizona management wasn't upset about the celebration in the pool itself, rather that the Dodgers jumped the fence to get there.
That's gorgeous. +1.
Holloway's gotta be a total saint for not wanting to curbstomp these kids, especially regarding the grandchild's headstone. I know I would be far less polite.
So THAT'S what the girls from t.A.T.u. are up to nowadays...
That's an all-timer. +1.
The "fat fuck" was a 215 pound linebacker. Not exactly beefy.
I was there, and we couldn't wait to get home and see the game on DVR because we were totally in the dark as to what was going on. We had our own theories, but I figured once I was able to see replays and such online, it would be more clear.
Maybe you should have tried the Sandusky/small boy joke instead.
I guess I should have clarified - five safeties available now that are better than Kerry Rhodes.
Five free agent safeties NOW? Go.
I feel the same way. No love for Whitlock or OSU here, but he seems to have hit the nail on the head with Thayer, who has written plenty about Oklahoma State before where his biases were quite evident.
