One nice thing about ASU's schedule is that we'll know exactly how good we are (or aren't) within weeks. If the Sun Devils get through the next four games with less than two losses, it could be a BCS-caliber year in Tempe.

In regards to your larger point, check out Louisville's shit-on-toast schedule. The AAC shouldn't be any big deal to them, and barring a huge upset, they could be on the losing end of a debate to get them into the national championship.

Last year there were a lot of moving parts that a lot of prognosticators ignored (a lot of matchups between top-25 teams that helped NIU vault from unranked to #15 in a matter of two weeks). I'm bothered by the hedging in the punishment. Either he did something wrong and should have been punished severely for lying about it, or he didn't do anything wrong and shouldn't have been punished at all. There shouldn't be middle ground on this if the NCAA is doing its job. This reeks of a cover up, but whatever.
