Well Disney bought the rights, and practically everything else, to the Muppets a few years back and then released the 2011 film. So they are the controlling interest and commercials like this shouldn't be a surprise.
I will say that this ad caught the 5 other people I was with by surprise and interested them. None of them are real "car people" but the name still has a cachet of Italian exoticness to them and if there are more like them this could be a way to help build a brand.
