I saw Douglas live in Chicago, and holy shit was it funny. Chappelle invoking Gadsby in this way just confirmed he’s completely lost whatever sense of humor he once had.

Man, talking about Gadsby has always brought out the trolls. Combine Gadsby with Chappelle and it’s a veritable avalanche of not-particularly-clever trolling. My dismiss finger is getting tired.

Also saw Douglas and laughed so hard I peed a little. She is hilarious, delightful and thoughtful.

I think you hit on something insanely important: Adapt or die. Comedians like Chappelle and Seinfeld seem stuck in a bygone era of comedy to me. When I think about the comedy that has stood out to me in the past ten years or so, it is often the more layered and meaty stuff that stands out (and is in direct opposition

None of the Netflix employees’ demands were about taking his special down or meeting with him. Dave just wants to feel important.

I assume someone, somewhere, said something to the effect of “I’d love to sit down with him and explain how his comments are hurting trans people.”

I just saw Gadsby a few weeks ago doing her new show Body of Work, and it was funny as fuck. She’s an insanely talented comedian. The fact that an autistic woman can hold a theatre full of people in the palm of her hand, so emotionally engaged with her that she can make you laugh or cry, is pretty much testament to

Or, more likely, Chappelle is just an asshole.

I continue to be amazed at the inability of men in general, and male comedians in particular, to fathom that maybe, just maybe, they might not be the intended audience for a performance. Their whole lives, every piece of media they’ve consumed has been targeted at them by media producers catering to their desires, so

In case you haven’t seen the cancel culture comments from Bobcat Goldthwait

Which is also the sort of thing that right-wingers are doing these days. Can’t wait for his new OAN show, “CANCELED!”

It’ll run for a decade before he gets tired of it.

Man I wish Dave would have someone sit him down with like a highlight reel of Trump being pathetically touchy about personal criticism, and the way he reacted with such aggrieved pettiness, and just say

Well, all this means is that you won’t get an audience with him.

Confirmed, in that I also saw the Douglas show live (although not the one taped; just the stop nearest me on the tour), and found her to be once again extremely engaging and funny.

Hitting women was never a “norm.” Men got away with it at different points in history, but it was never a norm. I’m sure if you asked domestic abuse victims back then, which no one did, they’d tell you they'd rather physical violence not be so widely accepted.

I didn’t hear much else, because it was the 90s, and we didn’t have the internet.

You raise a good point about separating the art from the artist. At what point is it no longer possible? I can still watch Connery films as well. But I can no longer watch the Cosby show without recoiling. And he was truly America’s dad at one point. So many kids looked up to him.

They find the use the “n word” to be funny, and completely miss the (very obvious) portrayal of the racist white folks as morons.

They also lose right? So it’s not exactly savior-y.

I unfortunately know people from an older generation (young boomer and old Gen X) who completely miss the point with Blazing Saddles. They find the use the “n word” to be funny, and completely miss the (very obvious) portrayal of the racist white folks as morons.
