The gag is, this is moral cowardice disguised as the last brave stand. DC is a multimillionaire living in a society with people who mostly agree with him. There is nothing risky about showcasing transphobia in a transphobic society. This is not honesty. It is just cruelty. Trans people should not have to be subjected

Teach the controversy... amiright? I mean, did the holocaust happen? Is the world flat and 3000 years old? Surely both sides are equally valid free speech points that are basically coin flips... amiright?

Here is what I believe... If you have a platform, and an internal HR policy, you shouldn’t use that platform to

We have to tolerate and actively include people who feel other people shouldn’t have rights.”

Holy shit, you couldn’t be more wrong. “Full support all over the world”, where are you getting that from? Trans people are the one group that it’s almost universally accepted to ostracize, assault, and discriminate against, even left of the political center.  Lip service is honestly the best trans people get almost

Meh. I watched and loved the Chappelle show when I was in college. It was smart and forward, especially for that time. But I watched the first netflix special, and maybe it’s me, but it was such a drop in comedy.

Are you sure your watched the right show? He starts off about the LGBT community, makes a joke about child sexual assault, something about jews, a couple jokes about being black, then right back to LGBT jokes and ending with "I had a trans friend".

leaps and strides from the 80s and 90’s where being gay was taboo, and now they’re more included than ever. meaning no harm came from it.”

I mean, the AIDS crisis would disagree with you there.

the only difference here, is the trans community has full support all over the world, and from a president. and while the community is still shunned by many, it’s nowhere near as “shamed” as it was before. the whole “delegitimising and directly attacking an entire group of vulnerable human beings” is nothing new in

It’ll be interesting to see, because what you’re not getting is this isn’t really about Chapelle, or trans people, even.

You can be a good person with good intentions and still act like a piece of shit. I’ve seen it happen. In fact, I think people who don’t desperately want to be good people, and don’t desperately try to think of themselves as “good people” are a bit less likely to be shitty, because they keep half an eye on themselves.

That’s a reasonable point but let’s look at it:

Lots of people wanting to defend generic comedian they found funny decades ago with the pretence that “it’s just words” who would probably not have the same hands off view if say Louis CK or another has been White comedian had a repeated routine where they declared themselves “team segregation” and how Black people

What’s ridiculous to me is that his stans are pointing to that as proof of his wisdom instead of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

It is genuinely fucking embarrassing how badly he doesn’t get it.

“I know you never had any wish to ever watch him, and you disagree with the things he said, but that just means you SHOULD watch him!” - Andy Brennan.

Never double-down on a joke. When someone calls you out on a joke, and you double-down on it rather than let it go, it means its not a joke, it’s your opinion.

Yeah no. I watched it, at least 75% of it was jokes about the LGBT community. People are arguing “the point was he said people will be mad” because people are already mad at him for these same shitty jokes that are beyond his comprehension. It’s not exactly a gotcha moment to call that he’ll be pissing people off

If something doesn't appeal to you, you are under no goddamned obligation to give it a chance

No, it shows how money trumps all. The unsubtle message in those memos is that Dave made them money so fuck anyone’s feelings.

I’ve never really watched anything from Chappelle before, so I didn’t even know this about him. But I’m glad this news is bringing it to light, so I can avoid him in the future.
