He’s abusive. Full stop. I do believe he is probably mentally ill but, like you said, it’s not an excuse or an explanation.
I have PTSD, OCD, and a mood disorder. I have never hit another human in anger. I have never threatened a partner with bodily harm or used suicide as a weapon. To anyone who needs to hear…
I had to stop reading the NYT article because it felt like I was reading about a past relationship. The weapon by the bed was a knife not a gun (we were living in the UK and no guns which probably saved my life a number of times). But, almost everything else... yes. My ex is now in prison in Eastern Europe for…
it’s always a great sign that you have a solid point when you have to systematically go through and remove all the comments disagreeing with you. /s
he pretty explicitly is blaming booze for his actions (why else even bring it up), claims he is just as much of a victim, and says that while his victims deserve to air their grievances he disagrees with “many of the accounts.” this is just a better written statement than most abusers make, but it’s still total…
Wild that I, an alcoholic in recovery, never abused anyone or anything except the alcohol in all those years. Not even I am sure how I achieved it. /s
Yeah, that was obnoxious. It’s very strange how that show has blown up and is now an instant positive PR blitz for the guests.
TThat’s a little harsh.
BuriedAliveOpener’s comment on this article explains way more succinctly than I could right now, why his “apology” was bullshit. Read that.
Frustratingly, communities often seem all too willing to hand wave and look the other way where known abusive men are concerned so long as that abuse is inflicted on his partners alone. It makes it really easy for them to dismiss it as “messy couple stuff” and “nobody else’s business.” People don’t start to rally…
Hey Shia, did you see this story about Johnny Depp in the Hollywood Reporter yesterday? You should totally read it.
His behavior reminds me so much of different people I’ve known with untreated personality disorders* (borderline, bipolar, narcissism) that then add alcohol to the mix. I hope he gets help.
The thing about the cages is that you need to make sure the blinds are closed first.
Um, I disagree.
I’m not rich. Puppies are harder than babies. Babies don’t do much. I’ve never had a baby start chewing up my belongings because it was anxious or bored. Even when babies start getting mobile, they don’t travel that fast. You don’t have to take a baby outside every hour or so.
Dolly Parton’s angelic nature has been known for decades. There’s an old episode of “Designing Women” (ca. 1990) where Dolly Parton comes to Charlene in a dream as her guardian angel.
9 to 5 would be a pretty appropriate national anthem for this country unfortunately.
Dolly Parton 2024?
I do hope that Dolly Parton doesn’t have some deep dark secret. She’s such a good person that it would kill my faith in humanity if it turned out she’s actually a serial killer who makes chili out of orphans.
