For the record, I also have the clunk but never experience it as I know how hard to push the car without abusing it. I am with you EvoXMR. New drivers of EVOs slam second and get the hard clunk which make me wince also.

Anyone care to elaborate on the dump switch thing? I am assuming it is like electronic cutouts that you can dump exhaust right after the turbo instead of running it through the CAT and the rest of the exhaust but I couldn’t find anything in my 2 min search. Also, if that is it how could Mitsu get away with that?
Had buddies that had them, Drove both STIs and EVOs, stock and modded...The EVO was always better. The damn STIs always PUSH when driven at the limits, whereas the EVO would track the intended line and rotate if you desired.
Even if it doesn’t help, they are good things to do if you haven’t. The shifter and driveshaft bushings are easy. The rear diff and moustache bar bushings are a pita and need a press.
Yeah, I would say the Evo is definitely a crazier and faster car than the STI. I remember when I test drove a mint, bone stock 2005 that I was going to buy. I decided against it because it was just too harsh to me, for a DD. I ended up with an ‘11 WRX.
