eSports will always have the same type of non-medaling pseudo-sport status as Chess, Bridge and Billiards. You'll never see LoL players waving at the opening ceremonies or on the podium getting medals. They will be on a list somewhere though, maybe.

The point of talk shows is to get attention, in HBO's case for subscribers, in other networks case, for advertisers. Same goes for comment threads. If you want serious discussions, start your own salon or go to a small liberal arts college.

Please don't tell people not to compare things that are different. It's totally okay to compare things that have differences. It's how you explore the distinctions between things. Apples are crisp and red. Oranges are juicy and citrusy. Both are fruits.

"They acted pompous and self-righteous, neither of which should have any place in a talk show."

You've got a lot of opinions about makeup!

Yeah man, you're just as good at commenting as you think you are.

I do not think you should post walls of texts when all you have to say is "I don't like this".

Is this All Time or just 2013?

"These reviewers have no reason to believe that they could suddenly lose everything."

You have to be the employee of a company to count as having a "traditional job", yes. And with that comes traditional legal protections and responsibilities. Independent contractors and freelancers get an amazing amount of freedom and autonomy and get to reap all the rewards of their efforts. With that comes

No, I get the concept. The difference between "self-employed" and "having a traditional job" seems to be lost on this whole thread. They are different things that are not the same and the differences are important and worth consideration.

The value is in gathering eyeballs to look at advertisements. That's how entertainment contributes to the economy. It's just a shiny thing that lures people to stare at ads to sell products from corporations. Making shiny things that people like to look at is a totally legitimate part of a post-industrial economy.

I think you're missing the point of the "get a real job" sentiment. Think of it more like "get a real currency" to people who hype Bitcoin. The fact that your new, innovative, untested and untraditional livelihood happens to be risky, dangerous, and subject to the whims of giant corporations and their wonky algorithms

It might be real, but it ain't traditional. His point is still irrelevant. Joe is running a very risky business and complaining about how risky it is. Just the fact that you work for real doesn't mean your job is secure. Think about it.

There are important differences between those different things you mention, yes. I wouldn't put on a real/not-real dichotomy ("stable/unstable" might be closer), but not all jobs are the same and not everybody is equal. You don't get it yet, but you're getting there. Personally, I think relying on Google to generate

Awesome.

"Don't spew bullshit"

You ARE a special snowflake. You are entitled to your opinion and you can act on behalf of whomever you want. So can other game companies. Other game developers and game companies who think differently and Google can act how they want. But to think that your opinion and viewpoint is 100% the best one and that
