Would you accept “biting the style of...”?

You’re not very good at reading. He chooses the word “long” to describe the shootouts. He didn’t choose words like “fun” or “exciting” or “tense”. What can we deduce from his word choice? Is “long” a neutral descriptor, or does it imply a whole semantic field like “boring” or “tedious”. Can you pull the subtext from

Honestly, I’m sick of the idea that “review scores” are to blame for this and the solution is to ban numbers when in reality it’s that video game fans need to grow the fuck up and stop giving a shit about what their favorite game gets scored at. Review scores are legitimately helpful consumer information. If the

“ Thomsen, a veteran critic, usually takes a contrarian approach to his reviews, doling out harsh criticism to beloved games like Dark Souls and Red Dead Redemption. (He once wrote a regular IGN column called Contrarian Corner.)“

“As a video game, this sense of adventuring was reduced to three essential pieces — long shootouts against mercenaries; interludes of cliff-climbing and ruins-clambering; and lavish movie sequences in which characters try to establish some emotional bond between an unlikely crew of helpers stuck working with Nathan.”

Jeez, what a ball hog. How do you get 29 boards and 4 assists? Hit the outlet man, get some fast breaks.

Do you want Clarence Thomas to decide how heavy the narrative is in your video games? How could you possibly come up with a legal definition for “narrative-heavy video game” that would make any kind of sense?

“because without them nobody would’ve heard of the game in the first place.”

How is that a “fact”? The game got tons of buzz pre-release. I’ve never seen a Let’s Play and I read about the game in the press. You’re totally cherry picking and sticking to ideology instead of stats. Nothing will convince you that Let’s Plays are sometimes bad. Even if they’re always good, what’s wrong with giving

Gaming isn’t “wholly different”. It’s different in some respects and exactly the same in others. Board games, plays, songs and other interactive intellectual property has copyrights and limits on what you can do with them.

Why limit it to “narrative-driven games” and set up some arbitrary rule? Let the developers decide. There are tons of devs who’d love Let’s Players to give them the free exposure. And there are tons of devs who think Lets Plays will kill their sales. Let them decide what people can do with their game.

You can’t cherry pick some Let’s Play success stories like Stardew Valley and then extrapolate to all games. Some games benefit from Let’s Plays. Some games are hurt by Let’s Plays. I see your Stardew Valley and trump it with a That Dragon Cancer. How about we let developers decide whether or not their games can be

“if people want to get matched with randoms and deal with all the trolls/griefers/noobs/inexperienced players/no mics/etc... let them.”

This is a lie. In-game matchmaking is incredibly easy. Going to some 3rd party website to find a raid group is a minor hassle. 5 minutes is an unacceptable wait time in video games. “It has 5 minute load times” “It took me 5 minutes to find a match” are things you write in negative reviews.

You can “play games in 3D” right now with a 3D TV. Trine works. Gears of War 3 and the Arkham games do it. Virtual Reality isn’t the difference between a 2D movie and a 3D movie. It’s about presence.

Sure gamers want the familiar. They’ll get the familiar. All the same games you’ve been playing will continue to get made and played. I don’t know, is it a generation gap thing? Is just because you never saw Lawnmower Man when it came out? I can’t wrap my head around this ho-hum, nit-pick attitude about legit consumer

Here’s how it’s going to go. This year, they’ll be like SegaCDs. Expensive extras that are have some really dope games and some super wack games. By next console generation, they’ll be baked in and considered an essential feature.

That bar is too high! “Mainstream as HDTVs!?” How about just “works and is dope and lots of people play dope games on it”. Why do we gotta be mainstream? This “World Domination or It’s A FLOP!” attitude makes no sense to me. If it’s shit and nobody likes it and nobody buys it, that’s one thing. But if lots of people

What if the killer app comes out in year 6? Home consoles were a dead fad in ‘82.

Not before then. 7 years! Goal post moving naysaying Debbie Downer. Who’s going to win the presidential election this year Nostrajaggoff?
