I find that totally disturbing.

I can see how they would appeal to people who don't read much. Easy to digest and your brain doesn't spin too much. For people like us who want to spin that brain up, it's nothing we want but a lot of the world just isn't like that.

My reaction when Vickers said, "...FATHER!" like it was some shocking reveal. It seriously took every ounce of my willpower not to just holler, "DUN DUN DUNNNN!" in the theatre.

So, I'm sure that when you're feeling down about something - had a bad day, kicked around by your girlfriend, car broke down, cat died, etc - you load up some pictures of the shanty towns in Mumbai or some of the pictures of the old killing fields in Cambodia. After looking at these, you feel entirely better because,

Agreed. That is actually a good movie. I enjoy it a lot. Alien 3 was utterly joyless, but I really liked Alien: Resurrection a lot.
