So, Mr. Smith, before you were stabbed were you wearing a shirt? When the knife pierced your chest did you specifically tell your attacker to stop? When he stabbed you the second time did you bother to say "No" in a firm clear voice? When you walked around being a jerk earlier in the day, weren't you pretty much

Yes! Exactly! If those things aren't horror, and torture porn is the new standard, than I give up on the genre all together!

I always thought she was just a visual interpretation of Kathleen Turner's amazing voice. Shows what I know!

It should be noted that King has also said that The Shining is a "good" horror film, but a terrible adaptation of his novel. Because it basically loses all the things he mentioned, especially in the two main characters. Jack's descent into madness is not nearly as effective when you have Jack Nicholson, who looks AND

That's emphatically not true, that he doesn't want to "upset" anyone. King's work has been routinely blamed for violence in schools, the deterioration of culture, and it's been accused of being misogynistic itself. He has written about a lot of extremely difficult subject matter that is absolutely not "safe". He

I don't think the misogyny he's referring to is that Jack is abusive though. He means that the Wendy he wrote had more agency than the cowering movie-Wendy; Kubrick reduced an interesting woman into a helpless victim type.

Well but Mr. King, to be fair, see Mr. Kubrick was trying to make a secret-coded movie about how we fake landed on the moon and stuff so sometimes when you're doing that it is hard to incorporate multi-dimensional female characters. It just is. Just ask anybody who has made a secret-coded movie about how we faked

YES! I Love these!!

WTF

Miley?

Unt now is the time of der show vhen ve rake. Sprockets!

All of it.

Uhhh. No. I meant it's probably indicative of a larger problem - who gets shows on the air (white people), who they feel should be represented on those shows (white people) etc. It sucks that after a bunch of actors and writers wrote and acted in something they wanted to do, they didn't look around and consider

There are so many good comics like this! I love these! Also, I made these cards a few years ago and used to hand them out to the worst offenders. It didn't change anything, but it made me feel awesome.

Nah, I don't think you should. I think that men are an important part of creating a peer culture in which gross men realize that other men will look down on them for treating women badly. And while this isn't a perfect solution— while we're still depending on men to take action— it's a step in the right direction.

Don't ruin this graphic for me.

"Aw yeah, Sun. Did you rise just for me? How'dya like to shine your luminous beams all over my naked body? I know the latitudinal coordinates for a topless beach you could meet me at. Wait! Why you hiding behind that cloud? I'm just trying to pay you a compliment. Bitch! I like the moon better anyway!"

Always assume they don't.

Good time for this repost. It's very helpful when trying to explain to possibly well-intentioned men why "getting compliments" all day SUCKS.
