That’s way different than going into 3rd instead of 5th. Supercar transmissions (except for the Viper’s hunk of a transmission) are built with lightness in mind. Go down instead of up and you are having a bad time.
You’d also have to grab a totally different gear stick to get into 4L on the highway... that’s a pretty

Doubtful. Someone would have just bought them up.  They’d still be around as someone’s sub-brand.

CDLs are only for commercial vehicles, not RVs/trailers.

CDLs don’t apply to RVs (I know, it’s very stupid). CDLs apply to commercial vehicles only. 

I used to work at a place that made fancy ones (half-mil average) and even those weren’t built well.  A buddy went to work at a company that serviced the cheap ones and said they were a horror show.  I’m amazed all of them don’t fall to pieces going down the road.
