In the Netherlands you leave your bike outside. Sure there's a high theft rate in Amsterdam, but a good chain and the fact that your bike is one of a million on the street you're generally pretty safe.

Do you still write in FORTRAN for kicks?

Or if you're flying within the EU, no ID necessary :) I remember freaking out when I got to the airport in Amsterdam where I lived, and realized I left my passport at home. I flew to Stockholm and back without any ID checks. I guess I'm just so used to them in the USA. Even on Amtrak trains (wtf?).
