Woah, woah, wait a minute. He pays someone money to do that to his hair?

Once more, with feeling:
"Poor girls. Nobody loves a parvenu."
I love your 1895 take on the ball. :)
I'm going to pretend this is the world's largest en masse lesbian wedding, and you can't stop me.
Ummm she never said it would be ok if her niece was fat, she's just pointing out the ridiculousness of it all. Her niece is tall and thin and even she gets flack. In her first parragraph she clearly says it is not right to shame kids and make them feel more insecure.
I really don't see where you're getting that she…
That is so awful. I want to time travel to awesome 7 year old you and tell her how brave and awesome she is.
The girl allegedly elbowed him and asked "What the hell are you doing?" before hitting the call button and (bravely, awesomely) speaking up about the incident.
Don't read the comments at smokinggun.com don't do it don't do it don't do it.
I am so sad this happened, but this girl is awesome for making a scene and standing up for herself. I'm twice her age, and I'm not positive I could assert myself like that in such a creepy situation.
Like splinters of the true cross...if you gathered them all together you'd have enough for a forest of trees.
BUT SHE'S CHEROKEE INDIAN LOLOLOL U GUIZE R DUMB SHE'S INDIAN PRINCESS
I thought she was impersonating John Boehner to be honest.
Wow. She looks phenomenal, and I'm so proud of all the work that she's continuing to do. I could not imagine the amount of PTSD that I would have if something as tragic happened to me... But she gets up every day and continues to make a difference. Loooooove her.
And on a really superficial note, I really like her…
I think I read somewhere that she lost her status as the first author to amass a billion dollars from her work while still alive, by giving so much of it away. She's a pretty prolific philanthropist!
JK Rowling on paying high British taxes on her immense fortune:
Exactly.
Talk about a light in the shitty darkness that our culture can sometimes be....
I've loved her interviews about being on the English equivalent of food stamps and will will take no shit if someone (interviewer etc) tries to insinuate that she really didn't need it.
And then she channeled those impulses into starting a charity to help those children. Rowling seems like the kind of person who strikes a good balance between feeling things and doing things, and I respect that she seems to feel a responsibility about her wealth.
