I’m ducking as I say this, but I found Witcher 3 kind of...boring. The story was pretty good, but the process of getting there was just kind of dull and ponderous. It felt like a decent novel that made me complete dull tasks before I could read the next few pages. Read more

So now the question is which of PS5, PC or X/X looks and runs the best (or rather, do you have to have a 3090 to make it look better on PC than the PS5 or X/X)?

Interesting. This has never happened to me in a decade-plus of iphones and ipads. Nor have I heard of it before. I’ve had aftermarket cables stop working, but not the phone’s port. Read more

I mean, wireless charging is fine. But it’s not really some sort of game changer. You still need a USB port of some kind, and a cord. The difference is that the end of that cord is big and you don’t have to insert it into the bottom of your phone. Might save you 3 seconds a day. Read more

Two years and counting on waiting for the Takata airbag recall on my car. Got my recall letter October 3, 2018.   Still “parts not available.”

I have a x900F and I hate, hate, hate it. It has an amazing picture, but the TV’s interface is just so opaque, over-menued, and so Sony. Ads all over the place, apps I don’t want but can’t delete, etc. You can turn most of those ads off with a hour-long sojourn through menu tree after menu tree, but not all of them. Read more

I have never heard this song referred to as a “Johnny Cash song” before. I guess “Big Yellow Taxi” is a Counting Crows song, too.

My wife asked if Louboutins were a thing in the time period when this is set. This troubled me for two reasons. (1) I’m still not 100% sure of the exact time period and (2) that seemed more like a question I’d be asking her. Read more

Yeah, but pretty much nothing happened other than blown tires until 166K. Even with “easy” miles that’s pretty impressive. Read more

I have had 2 goldens in my life. The most wonderful people in the world. Never had a bad word to say or a bad thought to think about them once they got past teething. Buthen the last one passed, I succumbed to my wife’s complaints about shedding and we got a labradoodle. Now, I really like labradors. Super friendly, Read more

After VII, IX and XII are the only ones where the story doesn’t play like some sad Twilight fan fiction.

Didn’t like The Pearl, but it runs circles around The Red Pony.  And it’s short enough that you could read it the night before the test.

Heart of Darkness is fantastic. Totally compelling. When Martin Sheen gets to Marlon Brando’s compound, the tiger, the whole surfing thing — all evocative and phenomenal. I didn’t really like the Redux’s romance angle, but overall I’d say the mood and tone are top notch. Top notch!
